A carrying case is one of the few branded objects your customer actually picks up and carries. It goes into their vehicle, onto their bench and in front of their own customers. Getting your name on it well is cheap relative to the case itself — the question is which method suits the material, the quantity and how hard the case gets used.
Branding a molded case
On Blow Molded and Injection Molded cases the options fall into three groups.
- Applied at the mold. Molded logos and in-mold decorating put the artwork into the case as it is formed. Nothing sits on the surface, so there is nothing to wear off. Best suited to committed runs.
- Applied to the finished case. Hot stamping, engraving and printing. Hot stamping is the workhorse — clean, durable and inexpensive per unit once set up.
- Applied as a component. Adhesive labels, in-mold labels and logo plates. The most flexible option if artwork changes between runs or you need different branding on the same shell.
Most Blow Molded cases have a recessed cavity plate molded into the lid — a flat, slightly sunken panel sized for exactly this. Putting the logo there protects it, because the raised edge around it takes the abrasion instead of the artwork.
Color is branding too
On a molded case, color is not paint. The pigment is in the resin, so it runs all the way through the wall — a scratch does not expose a different color underneath, and there is no coating to chip, peel or rub off. Scratch-resistant Mold-Tech™ finishes on the Classic line hold up further still. Custom molded colors are available, and for a fleet of field cases the color often does more brand work than the logo does.
Branding a Soft Sided case
Soft Sided cases are the easiest family to brand, because fabric takes decoration in ways plastic does not:
- Screen printing — vibrant and durable, good for bold marks
- Embroidery — textured and premium-looking
- Embossed leather — understated, good for presentation cases
- Gold and silver stamping — metallic accents
- Woven patches — handles intricate artwork well
- Clear card and label holders — when the identification has to change
Do not forget the inside
The lid is prime real estate and it is the first thing someone sees when the case is opened. Die-cut flaps hold manuals and literature, lift-out trays organize the top layer, and interior labels put part numbers, instructions or contact details exactly where they are needed. On a service or demo kit, that is often more useful than anything on the outside.
Choosing a method
- Low quantity, artwork may change: labels or logo plates
- Committed run, hard use: hot stamping or a molded logo
- Presentation matters most: engraving, embossed leather or in-mold decorating
- Fabric case: screen printing for bold, embroidery for premium
