It is mandatory to transport all guns with a certified gun case. There are a wide variety of companies who manufacture cases, but each business offers different products. The majority of these cases are custom molded to fit the exact dimensions of your fire arm. Below is a gun case buying guide that will help to make wiser decisions when shopping for a case.
When trying to pick the best case, you should always consider the class of the gun that you are interested in protecting.
- Sportsman Cases. They are less durable than the heavily reinforced hunting gun case, and are designed for target shooting purposes. These cases are also custom molded, and designed to have more of an aesthetical flare.
- Personal Cases- Personal cases are the least durable case and can only handle a low amount of travel and bumps. They are not designed with any weather resistant agents, as they are primarily designed for in home use. These cases serve a very specific purpose, which is to safely store a gun within the confines of a personal home. They often have elaborate locking mechanisms, which limit the danger of a child coming in to contact with a live fire arm.
In addition to case class, there is also a hardness level that is assigned to each different custom molded gun case:
- Soft Cases: Made out of nylon or leather, soft gun cases have a limited protection against drops and bumps, but are perfect for handling and transportation. Soft cases are great from hunters, and can be camouflaged.
- Hard Cases- A hard gun case is the most protective form of case for transporting guns and rifles. These cases ensure that the gun can never fall out of the encasement. The hard exterior also protects the fire arm from any impacts or damages. Inside of the hard case is a custom molded egg crate lining. This lining is designed to the specific dimensions of the gun and secure it snuggly within the case. These are the only gun cases suitable for airplane and train travel.
